Chris Madan won a Doctoral Scholarship from the Alberta Gambling Research Institute. Marisa Hoeschele was granted an Honorary Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship. Jiawen Chen, Danielle Lubyk, and Jamal Saleh were awarded Government of Alberta Graduate Student Scholarships. Congratulations.

Chris Madan and Michelle Yeung won NSERC PGSDs and the U of A's President's Doctoral Prize of Distinction. Marisa Hoeschele was awarded The University of Alberta's Andrew Stewart Memorial Prize. Shraddha Sapkota was awarded the Daniels/Rabin Parkinson's Society of Alberta Graduate Scholarship.

Elena Nicoladis has published several articles on gesture and language development in bilingual and monolingual children. Her SSHRC/NSERC funded research challenges views about the symbolic nature of gestures and how bilinguals represent information in language. Her finding that children assume gestures mean actions rather than objects challenges the view that children treat gestures and words as equally symbolic and may explain why they have difficulty interpreting number gestures.
