An integrative research and learning environment

The Computational Memory Lab is a nucleus of energetic, integrative research on human episodic memory within the UofA community. As a lab member you have the potential to carry out original research in memory from one or more approaches: experimental psychology, cognitive modeling, human electrophysiology and neuroimaging. The connection among approaches is a particular interest in our lab. In addition, the lab is part of the Alberta Cognitive Neuroscience Group and the Centre for Neuroscience as well as the Psychology Department.

Positions Available

The lab is full (an exception might be made for someone with strong programming and math skills). In general, however, we are always looking for highly motivated students who are a) interested in the specific research we do (see papers and projects) and have strong programming and math skills or a combination of some programming/math skills and large amount of interest in learning them.

If you are interested in joining the lab, please contact me (jcaplan@ualberta.ca).

Undergraduate Students

PSYCO496/498 Students: Independent Lab Study with J. Caplan.

Honours Students: See the Psychology or Neuroscience guidelines for information on their honours programs.

Summer Students: Some summer studentships are available (see the Psychology Department's info. here), especially if you have a very high GPA.

Graduate Students

I supervise students through either the Department of Psychology or the Centre for Neuroscience. Scholarships are available (see the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research info. here). The most important thing in grad school is to have a good match (personality-wise as well as research interests and style) between the student and supervisor. For this reason, if you contact me, please be specific about what in my research programme clicks for you and what research you would like to do in your graduate studies.

Postdoctoral Fellows

Ideally, postdoctoral fellows are supported by a national or provincial granting agency (see the Postdoctoral Fellows Office's info. here).
