Dr. Ian Whishaw - Academics

Ian decided to attend the University of Western Ontario simply because it was the only school which did not charge an application fee. "I was assigned to work with Case Vanderwolf, of whom I had never heard. He was a proponent of watching behavior and had a tendency to become somewhat rabid when the topic of the mind or learning came up. My PhD thesis described the relationship between the electrical activity of the hippocampus and the rat’s movements." Dr. Whishaw attributes his careful behaviour analytical techniques to Dr. Vanderwolf: "As a Vanderwolfian I have ever after been a proponent of studying overt behavior."
