I would like to see a short (i.e., a page or less) proposal of the topic you wish to do your research paper on. Basically, tell me what area you are going to be working on and any details that you have already worked out.

I am also asking that you include an annotated list of five references that you have already taken a look at. For this you need to provide me with the actual references (please use APA format) and, for each reference, a couple of sentences telling me what the reference is actually about and how it fits into your research project.

The purpose of this assignment is twofold. First, it forces you to start thinking about your research project early in the course. Second, it gives me an opportunity to provide you with some feedback on your topic (e.g., is the scale of the project appropriate, any relevant references I can think off, interesting related topics, etc.).

I should point out that this is just a proposal. If you do a little more work and decide that you'd like to change topics, that's fine. Just come talk to me and we'll get you shifted over to a new direction.
