Yiannis Aloimonos: The Geometry and Statistics of Vision and Action
It is becoming inceasingly clear that consideration of action
is very important in both the analysis and synthesis of vision systems.
I will argue that the meeting of vision and action happens at the level
of the representations of space-time, where space also contains the
agent. Then, using geometry and statistics I will derive constraints
on these representations. These constraints have specific consequences
on the system's cognitive architecture and the way in which navigation
and recognition are accomplished, showing that current state of the art
approaches are very limited. I will conclude with a short vision of the mind.
