Mental States: Sites to Visit

Sleep!

(Sleeping and Dreaming, pp. 208-220)

Most students are pretty sleepy about this time in the term.  Take this sleep hygiene test. Go there (note: This doesn't always seem to load in Netscape)
On what perspective (or perspectives) of the function of sleep is this test based?   How can you improve your chances of being awake and alert during your next exam? Discussion

Test Anxiety

(Arousal and Emotion, pp. 220-228)

Take this test anxiety scale and examine your results. Go there  (Sorry about the blatant advertising but the scale is valid.)
Katherine experiences extreme test anxiety.  She becomes physically ill before taking exams and cannot sit long enough to complete an exam.  She went to a hypnotist who taught her to hypnotize herself prior to taking exams.  With some trepidation, Katherine tried hypnotizing herself before her next midterm. She was extremely calm during the exam but failed it.  As her peer counselor, explain the Yerkes-Dodson Law to Katherine and help her find a way to manage her test anxiety without negatively affecting her performance. Discussion
