The Science of Violence Risk Assessment

Liam Ennis, Ph.D., R.Psych (University of Alberta, Alberta Hospital Edmonton)

Society has an interest in knowing which violent offenders are likely to continue to behave violently in the future.  The prediction of violent and sexual recidivism has received extensive study over the past three decades, and the result has been dramatic improvements in our ability to identify those who are likely to re-offend.  This seminar will provide a brief history of the science of violence risk assessment.  The current state and future direction of the science will also be discussed.
