Dr. Fergus Craik

Fergus Craik was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1935. At the time, his father was "an ambitious young executive in the Bank of Scotland" so it is no surprise that by age 4 young Fergus (Gus for short) knew which career path he would like to follow: he wanted to be a minister or a carpenter (termed "joiner" in Scotland). Young Gus soon decided being a joiner would be more fun.

Gus was enrolled at Lockerbie Academy, where he learned the basics of reading, writing and mathematics. Then, "my parents, ambitious for me, sent me to an excellent high school at the age of 12." His parents must have known his strengths were in academics because Gus was happy and motivated by school.
