Dr. Endel Tulving

Endel Tulving was born in Estonia, a small European country bordering Russia and Latvia, in 1925. His father was a judge, who enrolled young Endel in Hugo Teffner's Gümnasium private school for boys. While Endel described himself as a good student, he found his classes most uninteresting.

Instead of focusing on his academics, Endel could be seen trying to beat his track and field personal bests. It was common for young Endel to create and master his own obstacle courses, always aiming to be better than before.
