At the IGEL Conference in Chicago (July, 2016), Shawn Douglas received the Outstanding Student Paper Award for a presentation (with Don Kuiken) entitled, "A Model for Predicting Emergent Meaning during Literary Reading."
In 2017, Don Kuiken was elected president of IGEL (International Society for the Empirical Study of Literature; Internationale Gesellschaft für Empirische Literaturwissenschaft; IGEL). His term continues for four years.
