Dr. Melvyn Goodale

Melvyn Goodale was born when his homeland (England) was under routine attack from Germany during the Second World War, in 1943. Five years later, young Melvyn came to Canada with his family on the Aquatainia, a large British cross-Atlantic ship. Dr. Goodale arrived at his intended destination of Calgary, Alberta on his 6th birthday January 22, 1949.

His father was a successful carpenter and his mother managed W. H. Smith, a bookstore with British beginnings. Both parents were keen on young Mel’s abilities and encouraged him from a very young age to think seriously about university.
