Jeff Bisanz is a professor and chair in the Department of Psychology. The focus of his research is cognitive development and, more specifically, the development of mathematical thinking in children (www.psych.ualberta.ca). From 2000 to 2011 he served as Director of the Community-University Partnership for the Study of Children, Youth, and Families (CUP). He continues to work at CUP to develop collaborative, community-based projects involving research and knowledge sharing (www.cup.ualberta.ca).
Carley Piatt is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Psychology. Her research is focused on understanding how children with autism spectrum disorders learn to think about and generalize mathematical skills and concepts. Carley is co–supervised by Joanne Volden from the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, and is a CIHR Autism Research Trainee (www.traininautism.com).
Volunteer Research Assistants
Marian graduated with a B.Sc. in Specialization Psychology in 2012 and has been a member of the lab since 2011. Marian acted as the research coordinator for the Equivalence Project and assisted with the design and data collection of research on number-line estimation in typically developing children and children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Marian is passionate about working with children and families with ASD and other developmental disabilities and hopes to pursue a career within this area.
