a look at relevance
The first criterion you should look at when considering a resource for use, is whether it is actually relevant in terms of your information need.
Sometimes when you conduct a keyword search online, you yield resources that may contain the keywords you were looking for, but on the whole are not relevant to your topic. If you are examining a book, or journal, take a look at the abstract or summary to get a good idea of whether the source fits your need. Other resources, such as newspapers and websites may not include this kind of information, but are often short enough to quickly skim.
A quick skim to detect whether or not a resource is actually useful to you can be a great time saver, as you won’t need to invest lengthy amounts of time in reading resources that are not pertinent to your research.
