URLs: domain names
Resources from countries other than the US generally have a country abbreviation as the domain code, such as .ca (Canada), .uk (Britain), .it (ItalY0
.ca | Canada | .uk | Britain | .it | Italy |
.de | Germany | .no | Norway | .jp | Japan |
In this case, you would need to evaluate the domain NAME, immediately to the left of the domain code. This domain name is usually indicative of the organization or publishing group that is responsible for the resource, and can also give some good clues regarding credibility.
As an example, the "ualberta" domain name identifies the resource http://www.psych.ualberta.ca as coming from the University of Alberta. Similarly, the "nserc" domain name identifies http://www.nserc.ca/ as the home page for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada, the federal funding agency for natural sciences and engineering research in Canada.
