referencing style

Once you have cited a source of information, you must provide full details of that source in a Reference section located at the end of your paper. Following APA referencing style helps your reader quickly identify and find the sources you have cited in your paper.

Referencing formatting can be divided into three components:

  • Order in which the information appears
  • Capitalization, italics, and underlining
  • Punctuation

Ordering of the information allows you to quickly pick out the authors of a reference, the title of the work, and whether the information was published in a book or journal. Capitalization, italics and underlining, and punctuation formats help you distinguish titles of the written work from where it was published, as well as the type of publication, such as whether it was published in a journal or in a book.
